Which valet handheld system should you use?
Choose a valet handheld system that checks cars in by license plate, sends SMS and QR tickets, tracks key hooks, takes card payment on the device and keeps checking cars in without wifi. ParkingChief supplies the rugged Android handheld and runs the software, so hotels, restaurants and operators get one valet system from one company.
Book a demoWhy generic phones and paper claim checks fall short at the stand
Many valet stands still run on a pad of paper claim checks, a pegboard of keys and a separate card reader. Others try a consumer phone with an app and a payment terminal bought somewhere else. Each piece works alone, but the stand pays for the gaps: tickets written by hand, keys hung on the wrong hook, and a card reader that does not know which car the payment belongs to. Buyers searching for valet software often end up buying the software from one vendor and the hardware from two more.
- Handwritten claim checks are slow at check-in and hard to read at pickup.
- Keys on a pegboard depend on the runner remembering the right hook.
- A separate card terminal leaves payments unmatched to tickets.
- Consumer phones stall when the garage has no wifi or signal.
- Hotel guests who charge valet to the room create manual folio work.
What a complete valet handheld system does
ParkingChief valet is software and hardware from one supplier. The rugged Android handheld reads plates with its camera and takes Tap to Pay, and all-in-one models print stubs on the spot. Every ticket, key, photo and payment lands in the same record that the operator portal reports on.
Vehicle intake by license plate
The attendant points the handheld at the car and AI license plate recognition on the device fills in the plate. Condition photos and the parking spot go on the same ticket, so intake is a few taps instead of a handwritten form.
Valet featuresSMS and QR digital ticketing
The guest gets an SMS ticket with a QR code and a Request my car button. The stand scans that QR code at pickup to pull the right ticket, and no app download is needed on the guest side.
Valet featuresPaper plus digital hybrid tickets
Locations that still want paper print the windshield stub and key stub from the built-in printer. The same ticket can also go out by text, so a stand can serve guests who prefer paper and guests who prefer their phone.
Valet featuresValet key tracking by hook
The key hook number is recorded on the ticket at check-in. When a guest requests the car, the runner sees which hook holds the keys, and the hook stays on the ticket record for the shift manager.
Valet featuresCard payment on the handheld
Tap to Pay takes cards and phone wallets on the handheld that wrote the ticket, with card tips and presets. Cash is recorded on the same device, and each payment is tied to its ticket for the shift close.
Valet featuresHotel PMS room charge
At hotels, the attendant can post valet to the guest room through a property management system (PMS) integration. The charge lands on the folio the guest settles at checkout, so the front desk stops adding parking by hand.
Valet features
One valet car on a ParkingChief handheld
- 1
Check in by plate
The handheld reads the plate, the attendant adds photos and the key hook, and the guest gets a printed stub, an SMS ticket or both.
- 2
Request and retrieve
The guest taps Request my car. Every handheld on the shift sees the request, and the runner who takes it sees the key hook and texts an ETA.
- 3
Pay and close
The guest pays with Tap to Pay, cash or a room charge, adds a tip, and the ticket closes into the shift totals.
Hardware ParkingChief supplies
ParkingChief supplies the hardware the software runs on, so a valet program does not need a second vendor for devices. Each handheld is paired to its location and protected by a location PIN, and the operator portal can unpair or deactivate a lost device. Where valet shares a garage with self-park, ParkingChief supplies the gate arms, LPR cameras and kiosks too, and valet tickets and gated sessions sit side by side in one report.
- Rugged Android valet handheld, with all-in-one printer models
- Tap to Pay on the device
- LPR cameras for gated lanes
- Gates and barrier arms
- Kiosks for exit lanes and pay on foot

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need paper tickets for valet?
No. Each location chooses printed tickets, SMS tickets with a QR code, or both. A guest without a phone number still gets a printed claim check, and a lost stub goes through a recorded lost ticket release.
Can valet attendants take card payment on the handheld?
Yes, with Tap to Pay on Android 13 or later. Each location decides whether guests pay at check-in or at pickup, and the operator sets the card tip presets shown on the screen.
How do I stop losing keys?
Hang every key on a numbered hook and put that number on the ticket. Retrieval then never depends on memory, condition photos back up the handover, and each shift closes with its tickets listed per device.
Does it work without garage wifi?
Yes for check-in. The handheld reads the plate, takes photos and creates tickets offline with local ticket numbers, then syncs when it reconnects. Card payments need a connection, and cash can still be closed out offline.
Can hotel guests charge valet to their room?
Yes. Room charge is one more payment option on the handheld, next to Tap to Pay and cash, so a hotel guest can drive off without stopping to pay at the stand.
